Cocalico FBLA Kicks Off the Year

Cocalico FBLA Kicks Off the Year

Cocalico FBLA Officers are anxious to start another membership year and are looking to recruit new members. Their first step was to attend our recent 9th Grade Orientation Night on Tuesday, August 18 to meet and greet the incoming freshmen. The officers set up a table in the main hallway with information about what FBLA is and the different projects that Cocalico FBLA works on throughout the year. They also had free Rita’s Italian Ice for those who stopped by the table. They encouraged these 9th graders to sign up for FBLA on the first day of school during Homeroom. The officers also worked on creating posters to hang around the school to encourage all students to sign up for FBLA.

Besides membership recruitment, the officers are looking forward to kicking off a partnership with the local United Way to incorporate their Too Small To Fail early literacy program which involves members going to the elementary school and work with younger students to help them learn how to read. Statistics show that students who do not read proficiently by 3rd grade are 4 times more likely to drop out of high school. Cocalico FBLA hopes that going to Adamstown Elementary, Denver Elementary, and Reamstown Elementary and reading with the younger students will help to keep this statistic down at Cocalico. They also plan to continue their annual Trunk or Treat for students in the Cocalico Community and hope to make it even bigger this year by reaching out to local businesses to see if they want to participate as well as secure some local food trucks to attend.

Cocalico FBLA is looking to embrace both the National FBLA theme of Where Leaders Begin as well as the PA FBLA theme of Empowering Leaders, Unlocking Success as they plan and implement their program of work for the 2026-2027 membership year.
