Region Leadership Conference Testing Information

Each of Pennsylvania’s regions has a specific schedule when specific testing/performance guideline are to be met.  A complete list of the region’s schedule is posted here.

Due to the pandemic, related school closures, and other restrictions that are in place, all 2020-21 Region Leadership Conferences (RLCs) are to be conducted virtually.  There will be no “in-person” meetings/gathering.  This is the planning document describing how these various categories of events will be administered at the RLCs and at a hybrid or virtual state conference.

Honor Codes/Parental Expectation Video/Post-test Parent Certification Form

Because there will be no “in-person” RLCs, alternate testing options will be available to students which will included testing at school (should schools be open) AND/OR at home under the direct supervision of a parent.

The FBLA chapter adviser will determine who will and who will not test at home AND report that information to the state office prior to receiving the chapter’s passcode.  In order to test at home under the direct supervision of a parent, the following must occur:

Events Offered at the RLCs

The following categories of events will be offered during the 2020-21 RLCs:

  • Online individual objectives tests
    • The events in this category are:
      • Accounting I, Accounting II, Advertising, Agribusiness, Business Calculations, Business Communication, Business Law, Computer Problem Solving, Cyber Security, Economics, Health Care Administration, Help Desk, Insurance & Risk Management, Introduction to Business, Introduction to Business Communication, Introduction to Business Procedures, Introduction to Event Planning, Introduction to FBLA, Introduction to Financial Math, Introduction to Information Technology, Introduction to Parliamentary Procedure, Journalism, Networking Infrastructures, Organization Leadership, Personal Finance, Political Science, Securities & Investments, Supply Chain Management
        • In these events, the individual students will take a 1-hour online objective test.
  • Online team objective tests (with role plays at the state conference)
    • The events in this category are:
      • Banking & Financial Systems, Entrepreneurship, Hospitality & Event Management, International Business, Management Decision Making, Management Information Systems, Marketing, Network Design, Parliamentary Procedure, Sports & Entertainment Management
        • In these events, the individual students will take a 1-hour online objective test. HOWEVER, the students will take the test individually and separately from each other and there will be no collaboration permitted.  The scores of all members of the team will be averaged to determine a “team score.”
  • Prepared speaking events
    • The events in this category area:
      • Broadcast Journalism, Business Ethics, Graphic Design, Introduction to Business Presentation, Introduction to Public Speaking, Introduction to Social Media Strategy, Public Speaking, Publication Design, Sales Presentation, Social Media Strategies
    • These events have pre-recorded videos which must be uploaded to YouTube as “unlisted.”  These are the instructions to publish videos as “unlisted.”
      • In these events, the students will create their presentation at home or at school.  The students will record their presentation using technologies such as cell phones, Zoom software, digital cameras, etc.  Ultimately, the final video copy must be recorded from beginning to end without a break.  The final copy submitted for judging must be unedited.
      • The students will be expected to be in business attire during the presentation.
      • The region adviser will provide a form for the competitors to submit the URL of their presentation.
  • Live Interview events
    • The events in this category area:
      • Future Business Leader, Job Interview
        • In these events, the students will be scheduled for a “live” videoconference with judges.  The interview will likely occur from home.
        • The students will be expected to be in business attire during the interviews.
  • Live performance events
    • The events in this category are:
      • Client Service, Impromptu Speaking
        • In these events, the students will be scheduled for a “live” videoconference with judges.  The events will likely occur from home.
        • The students will be expected to be in business attire during the interviews.
  • School-site production tests
    • The events in this category area:
      • Computer Applications, Database Design & Applications, Spreadsheet Applications, Word Processing
        • In these events, the individual students will take a 1-hour online objective test AND a 1-hour computer-based production test (Computer Applications is 2 hours).

State-Only Events

In addition, there are multiple competitive events that are considered “state-only” events and are submitted directly to the state office for evaluation.  The deadline for the state-only events entry forms is December 18, 2021, no later than 11:59 pm.   This is a change from the initially published December 6 deadline.

If a student is competing in a state-only event, then he/she may not compete in any other event.
