Launch Your Own Pretzel Company Contest
(posted
09.18.05)
The Pennsylvania Future Business Leaders of America (PA-FBLA),
Non-Traditional Media, and the American Heart Association are excited to
announce a contest that will provide each chapter in PA-FBLA with the ability to
develop and launch an actual business. Chapters will compete with each other to
build the best, most marketable branded product. Proceeds will benefit the
American Heart Association. The chapters that create the most successful brands
will be invited to the Wharton School of Business at the University of
Pennsylvania for a juried competition.
This year’s contest is entitled “Build
Your Own Pretzel Company”. Each chapter will create its own brand, logo,
and marketing/sales/advertising strategies. Packages of pretzels featuring the
brand logo will be manufactured for each chapter to launch their brand into the
marketplace. Pretzels were chosen for a few reasons: (1) All pretzels for this project are produced in Pennsylvania, thus supporting
local businesses; (2) Pretzels are a “heart healthy snack;” (3) The minimums for a private label program are relatively small;
(4) Everyone likes pretzels.
The main focus of this program is Cause Marketing. Cause Marketing can be
best defined as a business relationship in which a for-profit business and a
non-profit form a partnership that results in greater sales for the for-profit
and a financial return for the non-profit. Projects that focus on cause
marketing allow for collaborations that foster a spirit of entrepreneurship,
philanthropy, hard work, constructive competition, and a desire to build
business skills It is one of the most important trends in business today.
This project links students, a national charitable organization, and one of the
world's leading business schools in an effort to create and maintain such
partnerships. Click on the link above titled "Build Your Own Pretzel
Company" for more information.

News Updates for Advisers
New 2005-06 State Dues Rate/Dues Processing Procedures
Pennsylvania FBLA state dues are $6 per member;
national dues are $6 per member. In order to eliminate a duplication
of work, state and national dues will now be paid to PA FBLA. Advisers
will submit membership via a spreadsheet to the PA FBLA Executive Director, and PA FBLA
will transfer that membership to the National FBLA site. Advisers will submit one check totaling
$12 per member to PA FBLA. More information on the actual dues processing
procedures will be sent to advisers late this summer.
